Rutabaga Juicery & Eats
Jim and Stacey Heywood are redefining the juice bar experience by making whole, plant-based food not only delicious but also as accessible as fast food in Annapolis, Maryland. Their dedication to small-batch quality, thoughtfully curated recipes, and cold-pressed juices that maximize nutrition and fiber is inspiring. On top of all that, they have a responsible approach to production and packaging.

conveinence meets quality
I was overjoyed to work with Jim and Stacey on refreshing the Rutabaga brand as they launched their second location. Together we explored their customer experience to highlight what makes Rutabaga truly special.
Rutabaga is all about making healthy choices easy and enjoyable, and I aimed to reflect that seamlessly in the design. My strategy was to blend convenience with quality, making grabbing a nutritious juice as effortless as picking up your morning coffee.
The goal was to elevate Rutabaga from a beloved local spot to a recognizable name associated with a vibrant, health-focused lifestyle. I crafted a modern, welcoming design that ensures every interaction—whether grabbing a cold-pressed juice or a quick, nutritious meal—feels fresh and memorable.
HAND-CRAFTED and refreshed
The new illustrated rutabaga icon is a tribute to the original, which the owners had hand-drawn themselves! We strategically gave a nod to the past branding to ensure it remained familiar to loyal customers while presenting a more polished and modern version. Collaborating with this team was such a fun and rewarding process!
“Melanie’s beautiful portfolio made choosing Little Orange Studio for our small business rebranding an easy choice. However, it was her excellent organization and solid-but-flexible schedule that helped keep a very busy business owner like myself on track with our project. Being new to the design process, we were overwhelmed by what to expect from the process, but Melanie made it stress-free by offering an enormous amount of support by being on hand for endless email and text questions. She made the process fun with a discovery session that really gets you thinking and sculpting your brand without even realizing it.
We were incredibly impressed with our final rebranding. We are now the proud owners of a much more sophisticated and timeless presence that we hope will be a part of our business and our lives for many many years to come.
Whether you are rebranding or creating a logo from scratch, Melanie knows exactly how to put all the pieces you need together to give the business you love the look it deserves. Little Orange Studio is one investment your business deserves and you won’t regret it!”
